San Francisco to Monterey and Half Moon Bay

Just under 100nm to Monterey. Left about 0515 and averaged 7.5ks leveraging the motor in the AM when there was little wind and as the wind on the stern transitioned to a steady 30k relied on sail alone. Estimate 6 - 8 foot waves. Hit 12.4k surfing, although can only photo-veryify 11.1k. Sighted grey/ blue wales. One large one close, others a bit farther off dancing with tails high in the air.Can anchor in Monterey outside the breakwaters, but the waves look like they'd be a bit uncomfortable. Can make reservations at Breakwater Marina or deal with first-come-first-served at the municipal marina (VHF channel 74 or 5).Lots of fog and wind, pretty cold. Mackeral off the municipal fishing gear.Motor sailed to Half Moon Bay. A great place. Plenty of room. Enjoyed our $10/night mooring. Could have easily gotten a slip. Achoring available at west inner breakwater entrance. Incredibly friendly staff.
